THE ACADEMY CHAMBER CHOIR

CELEBRATE CANONISATION OF POPES

Following their recent success on their debut television performance, on Sunday April 27 at 11am in St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral (the Cathedral Church of the Archdiocese of Dublin), the Chamber Choir of the Tullamore Academy of Music have been chosen to step into the shoes of the famous Palestrina Choir to sing motets by Lauridsen, Poston and the Byrd mass for four voices as well as the full plainchant latin mass with Professor Gerard Gillen on Organ.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin and the Papal Nuncio along with many other clergy will be the main celebrants for a Mass of Celebration to mark the Canonisation of Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII. On the same day in Rome, Pope Francis will declare Pope John Paul II and Pope John XXIII saints.

For those unable to make it to Rome this will be an opportunity closer to home to gather people to celebrate the life and legacy of the former popes.

The mass will be broadcast live via web broadcast available on the Pro Cathedral Website. There will also be a documentary about the Academy Chamber Choir and the performance itself that will be broadcast on County Matters programme on Sky 191 in Early May.

If you would like to hear the choir perform, they have been invited to open this years “Tullamore International Organ Festival” in the first concert of the series. This concert will take place on Tuesday 1st July at 8pm in the Church of the Assumption, Tullamore.
